If you're getting the error drive is not accessible or access denied, or the directory is corrupt or unrecoverable, then this video is for you. We're going to take a look at how we can resolve this issue and recover the data from your external drive where you're getting this error message pop-up. I’ll show you what the error message looks like in a second. But basically what you want to do is try these tricks to try to recover your data as soon as possible. Okay, so here we have a pen drive plugged into my computer and when I try to click on it and access it, you can see it’s saying location is not available, the derive is not accessible, the file directory is corrupted or unreadable. And that's a pretty common error message right there. And if you look at the properties bright clicking on it and go to the properties tab, you'll open this box up here. Now sometimes permissions is an issue, but it's quite an easy fix to try and recover your data. Now you can see here error checking. You may click on the error checking box here and sometimes it just don't work. It won't allow it to run. So we're going to do this in command prompt and it seems to work okay from there. So what I'm going to do here is going to come down to the start button here. Let me just quickly go to disk management here and I’m going to show you the actual drive here.It's in raw mode. You can see here.So if we come down to where it says E, you can seethe drive is raw and we won't be able to access that drive.So what we're going to dois go into the command prompt.You can see the file system raw.Now, sometimes you may be thinkingthat your data is gone.It's still recoverable.You can still recover your data in this state andthere's quite a few different methods you can try.But this is the tried and trustedway and it works for me.And I'm going to go straight into commandprompt by typing CMD in the search boxand run the command prompt as administrator.Now, once you got the command prompt boxed up, what youwant to do is type in here check disk, that ischkdsk spacer and then the letter of the drive that youare trying to do a check disk on.In my case, it's E.It will run a check disk on that drive.It will take a bit of time, so be patient.What it's going to do is going to go throughfive stages and test that drive to try to recover.Now, once you get this stage recovered, you should be ablea to see all your data on the drive. So what I'll do is I'll speed this process up. So I've speeded this up four times and you should see it checking the drive. Now, this will take a bit of time, so be patient. And that's completed now.So we'll go back to this PC and see whether it’s detected the drive and we can now pull off our data. And once you get all your data back, you can format the drive by recovering all the data and then format the drive and you should be okay. And there we go, that's pretty much it.Now there's other things you can do like change the permissions for that drive and also change the drive letter and try that.
